In 2007 we moved from Chicago to Gastonia, NC. 800 miles – 12 hours. We’d done this move in ’98 then went back to Chicago in ’99, but had rented a truck for those two moves. This time, we hired a moving company, and we also brought my inlaws and MIL’s mother with us (they bought a house in the same subdivision as us). The most memorable part of the move was driving the long way with three bickering kids, five cats, and a German Shepherd Dog who refused to go potty THE ENTIRE WAY. Between the dog’s failed potty breaks and the bickering kids causing me to miss not one but two turnoffs, we ended up in NW Georgia and our 12-hour trip turned into an 18-hour trip.
